The role and its responsibilities
The position is based at Sassenheim, the Netherlands, but you will also spend a lot of time at the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and at sites around the globe.

In order to establish the Value Creation roadmap for Packaging you develop a Packaging network across BUs, building the capability of BU packaging teams and securing agreement on short- and longer-term initiatives across all relevant parties.
These initiatives include portfolio improvement programs designed to: optimize operational excellence by reducing complexity in packaging portfolios; harmonize portfolios so that we benefit from economies of scale and drive cost savings; leverage best practice standards through the elimination of variants and long tails of slow moving packaging.

This demands that you ensure new technologies are fit for purpose across our markets and manufacturing sites, ensuring technical performance by validation, customer satisfaction, and increased sustainability of the BU portfolios.

You also control and prioritize packaging change requests or the upgrading of specs for existing BU portfolios via cross-functional networks, creating an understanding of data and steering decisions on which key issues to solve.

Further, you work with Procurement and Corporate AN Sourcing on global preferred supplier agreements to benefit from economies of scale, delivering cost savings year on year. You also gather business and market intelligence and run high-level analyses on patterns in markets, customers, packaging to be cross marketed, segments and sites/BUs we can push with our portfolio standards.

As such, this is a role for someone who can bring strong leadership skills and a proven ability to provide clear business direction within a matrix organization. You will travel globally on a project basis.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:

  • MSc or University degree in Technical engineering and/or Business Economics, and around 15 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience of leading cross-functional complex projects and processes (Lean Methodologies and Design for Six Sigma certification preferred);
  • Experienced in the use of project management and CI tools and methodologies, and able to train and mentor other Project Managers on Project Management methodologies;
  • Familiar with Business Case development including Financials (NPV) and Project Charter;
  • Able to comprehend the technical aspects of a product sufficiently to communicate impact across all levels of the organization;
  • Strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills including fluent written and spoken English.
