A wide-ranging and international role for an autonomous, experienced and collaborative project manager

We are organizing a regional team to take our Europe & Africa (E&A) ISC organization to the next level. Your role in this team is to manage a wide range of projects covering various areas such as product transfers, product line relocations, complex product changes, and other supply chain related projects. This requires having a hand’s on approach and solid background in preferably manufacturing, supply chain and/or R&D. You will work with a high level of autonomy, within the regional organization, while interacting closely with multiple sites and functional areas (Marketing, R&D, Procurement, Finance, etc) as well as the PDC (Product Development Center) and LTS (Local Technical Support). You will have to be able to manage multiple projects successfully balancing timings, priorities and resources.
This role also serves as a reference point for project management where you provide guidance on projects and project management.

The role and its responsibilities
The position can be based in Sassenheim or the AkzoNobel Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from where you define, develop and manage credible project plans including scope, risks, budget, timings and resources. It is imperative that all plans support ‘speed to market’.

A typical project might involve transfer of production and lines from one site (country) to another site (country), taking into account all aspects involved (costs, capex, raw material and packaging requirements, trials, and timely delivery). As AkzoNobel Deco has a large and complex portfolio this requires effective change management. Another project may be the coordination of the commercialization of a large range of our products across various markets.
Additionally, you support the Sourcing Board and Pack Council in managing major projects resulting from decisions out of these forums. You will work closely with sites, planning, marketing and PDC.

All of this requires you to manage the project team so that it meets agreed milestones and delivers on time and in full. You also ensure adherence to project management standards and monitor progress and performance against the project plan.

On an ongoing basis you communicate and report on project status, managing risks and developing contingencies where needed. You also coordinate and report on the PLE. Thus you require advanced stakeholder management skills.

Further, you support and guide the business with managing smaller projects, while educating and sharing in terms of best practice project management. In addition you coordinate the assigned project portfolio and align with the PMO Lead E&A.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must possess the following attributes:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in an Economic or Technical subject and at least 10 years of experience in project management including major product introductions and complex supply chain projects in a multinational environment. A broad understanding of relevant manufacturing and supply chain processes; 
  • Experience with the Stage Gate process and, ideally, PRINCE2 Foundation certified;
  • Ability to support in allocation and supply chain optimization initiatives;
  • Open approach, willing to support and educate the organization in raising its project management skill set;
  • Strong communication skills including fluent written and spoken English.
